Rev. Dr. Boykin L. Hunter, Jr.

On September 7, 1962, Rev. Boykin Hunter, Jr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Boykin Hunter, Sr. and the late Zellena Cosey Hunter.   Being that he was the only boy, he has always been a joy to both his parents and his five sisters.

Rev. Hunter accepted Christ at a very young age at Saint Joseph Baptist Church.   Because of his faithfulness, commitment, and dedication to serve the pastor, the church and community he was ordained as a deacon of Saint Joseph Baptist Church in 2002.    Rev. Hunter was called to preach the gospel in 1998 his first sermon being titled, "There is a Snake on your Trail" (Jeremiah 1:8).   Rev. Hunter greatest desire is to have a congregation of loving committed saints who serve the Lord with their whole heart and mind. He boldly teaches the word of God and is spiritually mature.    Until Rev. Abraham L. Woods death in 2008, he was a faithful servant who served and loved his pastor.    In 2010, Rev. Hunter was called by God and elected by man to pastor Saint Joseph Missionary Baptist Church.    Rev. Hunter's goal is to maintain the fine traditions that have already been established and to take the church to the next level.

Rev. Hunter is a humble, faithful, gentle, sober, peaceful spirit.    He has a love for all people and great people skills.   Rev. Hunter's educational accomplishments include: graduating from Glenn High School(1981), Grambling State University(1985) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham receiving a Master's Degree and Administration Certification.   He is an Assistant Principal in the Birmingham City School District.    Because of his reputation as a respected and upright man of God he has been asked to pray before the Birmingham City Council and Mayor sessions begin on several occasions.

After much prayer, in March, 2010, God blessed Rev. Hunter with the greatest gift that he could receive in the person of his wife the former Ms. Sykina Miles.    His favorite song is "I Won't Complain"!   In his leisure time he enjoys spending time reading his favorite book which is the "Bible" and fulfilling the will of God.    One of his favorite scriptures is Proverbs 3:5-6:  Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.   Although Rev. Hunter has many brothers in the body of Christ, he is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
